Thepla Ingredients 

  • 1+1/2 cup of Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Fenugreek Leaves (Methi – finely chopped)
  • 3 tbsp Coriander Leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Curd (yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste (optional)
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • Refined Oil/Desi Ghee
  • Salt to Taste
  • Water

Step-by-step Methi Thepla Recipe for Travel

To make delicious Gujarati Theplas, follow these steps:

Step 1: 

In a large bowl, combine wheat flour, fresh fenugreek leaves, chopped coriander leaves, yogurt, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, oil, and salt.

Step 2:

Mix well and gradually add water to form a soft and smooth dough like the one used for making chapatis. Apply some oil to the dough and cover it with a cloth or a lid. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Then divide the dough into 7 equal portions and shape them into balls.

Step 3: 

Take a plate with some dry wheat flour for dusting. Take one ball of dough and flatten it with your hands or on a rolling board. Dust it with some flour and roll it into a thin circle of about 6-7 inches in diameter (similar to a roti or a paratha). Place a tava or a griddle over medium heat and let it become hot. Then put the rolled Thepla on the tava.

Step 4: 

Cook the Thepla until you see small bubbles on the surface, then flip it over and drizzle some oil over it. Cook for another 30 seconds, then flip again and drizzle some more oil. Press the Thepla gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking on both sides. Cook until you see golden brown spots on the Thepla. Adjust the heat between low and medium as needed. Repeat the same process for the remaining dough balls.

Step 5: 

Transfer the cooked Theplas to a serving plate. Enjoy them hot with masala chai or yogurt.
